Do women and men use language differently in spoken face-to-face interaction? A scoping review

چکیده

Although the question of whether women and men speak differently is a topic hot debate, an overview extent towhich empirical studies provide robust support for relationship between sex/gender language lacking. Therefore, aim current scoping review to synthesize recent from various theoretical perspectives on use in spoken face-to-face dyadic interactions. Fifteen were systematically selected review, discussed according four different associated methodologies. More than thirty relevant linguistic variables identified (e.g., interruptions intensifiers). Overall, few differences observed across contexts, although seem be more engaged supportive turn-taking men. Importantly, gender identity salience, institutionalized roles, social contextual factors such as interactional setting or conversational goal play key role speaker’s used interaction.
